“I’m delighted that Norman and Euros will be the opening concert at Frets Acoustic for 2020” said Frets Acoustic organiser Douglas MacIntyre. He continues, “I’m currently booking artists to perform Frets Acoustic concerts at the Strathaven Hotel on a monthly basis. We’ve got some great artists lined up to play, I’m delighted to be able to bring these concerts to Strathaven”. Keep watching for updates on www.fretscreative.com.

Norman Blake came to prominence initially as part of the burgeoning Bellshill scene that revolved around the BMX Bandits from the mid-80s onwards. His first single was released with The Boy Hairdressers in 1986 on the 53rd and 3rd label. Teenage Fanclub was formed in 1989, and soon captured public attention with a Blake composition, Everything Flows, and their debut album A Catholic Education.

Teenage Fanclub released Bandwagonesque in 1991 on the Creation label. It was an album that really delivered and brought the group international success. The group consolidated with several albums released on Creation and Sony over the next 10 years, before establishing its own label (PeMa) in 2005.

The most recent Teenage Fanclub album, Here, was released to commercial and critical acclaim in 2016.

Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci came to prominence with the release of Patio in 1992, releasing further albums on Welsh-language label Ankst before signing with major label Fontana Records for their Barafundle album in 1997. The idiosyncratic vocals, keyboards, and songs of Euros Childs continued to drive Gorky’s forward, with albums also released on the Mercury and Manta labels before the final album release, Sleep/Holiday, released in 2003 on Sanctuary.

Euros Childs released his debut solo album (Chops) in 2006 shorty after the official split of Gorky’s was announced. His solo output since then has been prodigious, releasing at least one new album each year. His latest album, Gingerbread House Explosion, is released in March and is available as a pre-release from his website http://www.euroschilds.co.uk. Buy it, it’s a cracker!

Norman Blake and Euros Childs worked together on a joint project – Jonny – and released an eponymously titled album in 2011, then in 2019 Teenage Fanclub announced Euros had joined the group.
