Kevin McDermott first came to the public’s attention with his debut single by his first band, The Suede Crocodiles. The group created interest in Glasgow and were exposed to a wider audience when asked to support Haircut 100’s Nick Heyward on his UK tour.
McDermott released his first solo album (‘Suffocation Blues’) on the demise of the Suede Crocodiles, and on release of the album in 2006, he performed live on Channel 4 music show The Tube. McDermott promoted the album by supporting Del Amitri on UK and US dates, on his return he decided he would form a band.
The Kevin McDermott Orchestra were soon signed by Island Records, and released their debut album, ‘Mother Nature’s Kitchen’, to much acclaim. KMO embarked on a concentrated period of touring as both headliners and support slots, playing with artists as revered as 10,000 Maniacs, Squeeze, The Alarm, Sting, INXS, Simple Minds and Rod Stewart. KMO released 4 albums before fragmenting, with Kevin going back to a solo career.
Kevin is one of Scotland’s best loved live performers, with a catalogue of strong material from his solo and KMO albums that highlight his songwriting ability. It is a great pleasure to have him perform an acoustic concert at FRETS.
