Frets Creative was formed to promote arts, photography, literature and music through use of its unit in Barn Street Mews. COVID-19 lockdown has meant we have had to delay opening but it hasn’t stopped us working on plans for when things ease and shops can reopen.

We have been working with Mhairi Anderson of Creative Strathaven and our plans are coming together nicely for an exciting new retail space for local artists, photographers and crafters. Mhairi has been working away with her contacts to bring together an exciting new retail space that will complement all of the other galleries and craft shops in Strathaven and hopefully bring new business to our shop and all of the other fantastic retail outlets in Strathaven. Mhairi will be publishing more details of her plans for the retail space, and also for practical workshops on a wide variety of subjects.

We will be opening the unit up as soon as lockdown restrictions ease and we will follow all guidelines on safe operation. Our flexible layout with two doors will enable us to operate a one-way system as required.

We are also planning to run photography workshops. These will be run by Les Hoggan in conjunction with Creative Strathaven. These will provide two sessions over two weeks. One will be a workshop in our unit to go through the theory on how to use a camera with practical demonstrations of the use of different settings, composition, lighting, covering a wide range of photography styles. The second will be a practical session out and about in Strathaven putting the lessons from week one into practice.

Music lessons will also continue in the unit. These are run by Douglas MacIntyre and take you through everything you need to know to learn how to play the guitar.
There will also be regular Makaton sessions running in the unit. For more information go to www.chattersense.com
Our unit has a very flexible layout, comprising three rooms.
Room One is our workshop area where meetings can be held, workshops can be done and it can even be used for hot-desking using our wifi. It can be hired out by the hour, day and is also available to use in the evening. It has kitchen facilities and a toilet.
Room Two is our gallery area. It will be used as a display area for Creative Strathaven and can also be hired out in the evening for other workshops or meetings.
Room Three will be Creative Strathaven’s retail area, filled with local arts, photography and crafts. Keep an eye out on the Creative Strathaven website and Facebook page for more details as they develop.
If you are interested in using our space for meetings or workshops just get in touch at info@fretscreative.com or call on 07557 234124.
