A poem by Carolyne Mitchell

Look at the sky you said
I smiled as I looked at the double rainbow spanning the roofs
And in your eyes I saw glitter
And fairies
And unicorns
Look at the sky you said
I laughed at the snowflakes as they began to fall
And in your eyes I saw sleds
And snowmen
And Santa Claus
Look at the sky you said
I frowned at the slate grey expanse heavy with thunder
And in your eyes I saw mean girls
And heartbreak
And scars
Look at the sky you said
I grinned at the perfect blue ozone
And in your eyes I saw an ocean of possibilities
And cocktails
And fun
Look at the sky you said
I gasped at the colours of the aurora as they danced high above
And in your eyes I saw happiness
And sleepless nights
And nursery rhymes
Look at the sky you said
I stared at the moonbow in the blackness of space
And in your eyes I saw a reflection of mortality
And worry
And tears
Look at the sky you said
I gazed at the stars and the tail of a comet
And in your eyes I saw the sky
And you
And me
And I let go of the world
